Casting For Spanish Mackerel

If you haven't noticed by now, i have an addiction. An addiction to fishing for Spanish Mackerel. These toothy speedsters are my number one target when i am fishing in the East Coast of Malaysia. From Desaru to Rompin and Pekan. Known locally as Tenggiri, they are a priority for me when i am fishing in these locations. Why you may ask? Because, aside from the ferocious strikes and speedy runs, they taste great! (I am highly motivated when it comes to indulging my belly) The thought of having freshly caught Tenggiri cooked for dinner is reason enough for me to get on the water and chase after these toothy critters. There are several ways to catch Spanish Mackerel. The most common ways are to use a wire rig with live bait or to troll for them. Another way is to jig for them using long thin profiled jigs at a high tempo. Casting For Snakehead

Completely engulfing my Zerek Gandalf Jump Frog For most parts of the year, i am usually fishing offshore somewhere, chasing Pelagic and Demersal species. I rarely do any fishing inland. But when the rainy season comes, i wipe the dust off my bait casting reels and get my casting rods out of their bags. I pick a handful of my favorite lures, swap out the older hooks and split rings with some new ones. It's time to go fishing for Channa Micropeltes, also known as the Giant Snakehead (Toman). While it is possible to land a couple of them locally from land based casting, I am not a huge fan of long treks and playing hide and seek with the relevant authorities just to get a couple of casts in. Fishing in Sumbawa

A couple of months ago, i made a decision to head off by myself to fish alone in a remote area off Sumbawa, Indonesia. I desperately needed a break from work. I called up my friend Sahil from Lombok Fishing Adventures, and set about making plans for a 2 day fishing trip that would take me to a fishing village in Sumbawa which i visited back in April of 2017 with Jith. I flew to Lombok via Silk Air. It's a direct two and a half hour flight that whizzed by pretty quickly. Sahil picked me up at the airport and we went for lunch at a local eatery which served fried free range chicken and soup with rice. I had to remind myself to go easy on the chicken doused in chilli! It was so good. But i felt like i was eating a mynah bird or something as the local chicken are petit in stature. After lunch we began the long journey of getting to Sumbawa from Lombok.
